We all know that Skype is a VOIP(Voice Over Internet Protocol)service provider.Now to it adds a new VOIP service provider naming Gizmo.Gizmo uses peer-to-peer networks to make calls to phones and
computers.It works across the Windows,Mac,Linux and Symbian operating systems.It is free and can be downloaded from www.gizmoproject.com The latest version is 3.1.2
Features of Gizmo:
Test the headphones and mic after installing Gizmo.Go to
Edit>Options and configure the network settings,add contacts,and configure sounds.To make calls,use the Contact tab in the main window and click on the green button.The ring sound indicates that the call is being transmitted.Gizmo like Skype,can be used for making calls to other computers and phones irrespective of location.But Gizmo is comparatively cheaper than Skype.The Call Out feature is the calls from the machine to other phones,while the complementary Call In feature allows other users to call your computer from their Gizmo phones(Call in numbers are not
available for Indian numbers).Group chats are available,as well as free conference between computers,landlines and mobile phones by using “Free Conference Calls” and also IM.File transfers can also be done.
Gizmo has a slew of features not available in Skype.As a chat client,it can interact with other networks that use SIP(Session Initiation Protocol),some of which are Windows Live Messenger,Yahoo! Messenger,and Google talk. Tha calls made from Gizmo-to-Gizmo are encrypted using SRTP(Secure Realtime Transport Protocol),a robust security protocol.
