KOLKATA: Indian works have stolen the show at the Sotheby’s contemporary
art auction in London. Works by six Indian artists have whipped up a total sale of $11,69,886. The highest price has been achieved by Raqib Shaw’s Garden of Earthly Delights at $3,57,300. T V Santosh’s Advent of a Saviour has gone for $2,26,653.

pound;27,08,500 ($54,91,755) at the Sotheby’s evening sale of contemporary art in London in October 2007. This represented a record for any Indian
work of art at an auction.
Subodh Gupta’s aluminium and bronze sculpture Fire soared well above its presale estimate of £20,000-£30,000 and sold for £1,02,000 ($2,02,899). Gupta’s work incorporates media from sculpture and painting to installation, photography, video and performance. He primarily chooses to elevate everyday objects of rural India to the level of art.
