How many bucks does someone have to shell
out for an anti-virus software that is easy to use, runs on low system
resources, with automatic update functionality and real-time protection as
files are opened and programs are run, and which includes a virus vault for
infected files? Believe it or not, it will cost you nothing. It’s absolutely
free. And I am talking about the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition which was
developed by Grisoft, a Czech Republic-based developer of anti-virus and
Internet security solutions for consumers around the world.
I have been using AVG Free for the past
three years and, until now, it never fails to give me all the basic protection
features I need for my personal computer. A program facet that I like is the AVG Test
Center which provides
user-friendly access to the most frequently used features of AVG Free:
updating, scanning, task scheduling and basic configuration options. It is
loaded with a task Scheduler, which launches automatic tests and updates; a
Resident Shield which provides on-access scanning of executable files and
documents; a Virus Quarantine which provides safe storage for infected files;
and an Update Manager for automatic AVG Free Edition update from the Internet
or local network. It also features an Email Scanner for incoming and outgoing
email messages. It is really easy to use and most advantageous for users who
require maximum virus protection with limited user intervention needed, at no
cost at all. It’s no wonder that Grisoft bagged PC Pro’s Software of Year Award
in 2007 for AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition.
Moreover, consumers were pleased with the
announcement in January 2008 that AVG Free was “downloaded more than 1,000,000
times from CNET download website (http://www.download.com/3101-2023-0-1.html)
in the week between Christmas and New Year and also in the week from January
1st to the 7th 2008…GRISOFT acquired Exploit Prevention Labs in December 2007
and will incorporate their LinkScanner technology in the AVG product line, including
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. Among benefits users will gain from LinkScanner
technology are real-time warnings about poisoned web pages before they visit
the page and protection against drive-by downloads and exploits.”
I honestly believe that AVG Free is the most effective free anti-virus software
because it protects the home user’s PC with a high level of detection
capability without charge. Simply visit the site at http://free.grisoft.com and, with just a
click of the mouse, one can download it for free. Unlike other anti-virus
software companies whose products expire after a certain period and where
subscription renewals carry a price tag, AVG’s noble purpose of providing free
and up-to-date anti-virus protection for home and non-commercial users is truly
remarkable. And this is my way of thanking AVG for their unselfish effort to improve the lives of countless home users, including me.
