A Silicon Valley-based electric car manufacturer startup, Tesla Motors is anticipating the electric car to be the vehicle of the future thanks to the threat of global warming. Tesla boasts that the Roadster has an acceleration rate of 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, a mileage equivalent to 135 mpg and a range of 220 miles per charge. Being an all-electric vehicle, the Roadster is said to produce one-tenth of the pollution emitted by a regular sports car.
Formed in 2003, the company is named after Serbian-born American inventor Nikola Tesla, known for his revolutionary contribution in the field of electricity and magnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Tesla has started regular production and is struggling to meet the demand. Because of the international concern over the threat of global warming, environment-friendly cars are increasingly becoming popular, which is a boon to Tesla.
