Her Majesty The Queen and Prince Philip visit Turkey today 13th May 2008 and they are visiting Bursa and other parts of Turkey .... The Queen is 82 and the blog implies that this is a visit that is long overdue.
The last occasion The Queen visited Turkey was in 1971 .. and it seems there is a lot that has happened since that time since that is about 37 years ago. During that year I was giving birth of my eldest son and for whatever reason that year 1971 is imprinted on my memory to the extent that I think my next book will title/1971 .. our local postal workers cringe everytime I mention 1971 and mostly its being on the Cambridge Side of the Boat Race rather than the Oxford Side of the Boat Race and as we know, Oxford won the Boat Race in 2008. Where is all this leading to .. my son born in 1971 was a student at Oxford University .. rather like my friends we have become fans of 1971 ... still its all in a day's work.
The Queen representing HM Government in Britain is supporting the Turkish Bid for entry into membership/full of the European Union .. I used to say to my students:
