On the occasion of the death of Sir Charles Wheeler at 86 I tuned into the BBC Radio 4 and heard Jeremy Paxman Interview with Charles Wheeler around the time of Wheeler's 80th birthday... it has a wonderfully economic turn to it and it is evocative in that it reconstructs highlights from Charles Wheeler's outstanding career in Journalism in the UK and Overseas.
Charles Wheeler was behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War and Paxman recites many stories and wonderfully creative comments on Wheelers views on what he saw and heard during that period of the Iron Curtain ... being a metaphor for Communism in Europe which fell between East and Western Europe.
Paxman is wonderfully sympathetic to Charles Wheeler and gets the best out of the Interview that it is so vivid and real that even I took stock of what Wheeler was saying and wrote a poem on the same theme as since the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe I have worked in former Communist Countries .. over a decade ago .. thanks to Paxman and his outstanding interview with the late Sir Charles Wheeler .. great work .. keep on tuning into BBC Radio 4 ...
