My
friend mentioned that Wendy Cope had read her poems at Winchester but she had better take classes from the Drama Lecturer
as her reading wasnt up to scratch .... I know a joke and can laugh with the best of them/
However her advice rang in my head and tonight I saw on You Tube Wendy Cope Oxfam CD read her own poems for the first time ......... though my
friend had beaten me to it in the race for doing it before everyone else.
The poem title by Cope is .. "Spared" and its about a few minutes long and seems to echo Universal themes of running out of time and making the most of those last dying moments of possibly one's own life. Wendy offers a link with Emily Dickenson .. as follows .. /Love is all there is/ and links with her own lines as follows ...
/we may never meet again/
/blazing tower/
/say goodbye!/
The Epigraphic link with Emily Dickenson is poignant and well poised for both theme and context.
The poem is delivered with all the emotion required to make it a great day for the poet and her
Poetry and its good to be spared to receive it on You Tube tonight as last time I had an abortive attempt with the Oxfam CD to get it to work but again if at first you dont succeed try try and try again! .... great success online ...thanks to my Engineering Friend ... All is well. Great Poet Great Poetry Readings by Wendy Cope Oxfam CD . nice work ... on You Tube ...
