A touch of class about the whole event and we are back to the past in poetry where I got a You Tube recording ... Seamus Heaney - Charlie Rose.
The whole programme is devoted to the work of Seamus Heaney and the interviewer is with him .... discussing the feelings Seamus Heaney Poet had in 1995 when he won the Nobel Prize for Literature as an Irish Poet.
A point made was that Seamus Heaney was the first Catholic from Northern Ireland to win this coveted prestigious prize and Heaney makes a point that his father did not go to College but he did and he was given the best education money could buy, I guess. He is a countryman at heart but relocated from Northern Ireland to The Irish Republic early in his writing career with great International Success as an Irish Poet.
There is a touch of comedy here where the conversation rolls on the notion of the noun "Poet" and its decided that its an important noun, too important to ignore .......... perhaps with a dash of arrogance to have the confidence to call oneself a Poet anyway. Fortunately Seamus Heaney had and the discussion agains turns on Congratulations to Seamus Heaney for winning in 1995 the Nobel Prize for Literature for Ireland .............. the You Tube is dated 1996 ... great stuff ..... nice work ... Heaney at that point in time was a fifty something and was in Greece when it was annoounced that Heaney had won the Nobel Prize for Literature and is known these days as a Nobel Laureate! Wow!
