The spa in south
Courtallam, more popularly referred as the ‘spa of South India’, does not share any significance in
the
tourist map. There aren’t even a sufficient number of travelogues to disseminate the natural heritage and tourist interests of this place. Despite all these the very utterance of the word ‘
courtallam’ creates anxiety and pleasure in the minds of people residing in heat terrain zones like Chennai.
This tourist destiny is not only famous for waterfalls and temples but also for health and wealth. In fact the irony is that people here make great fortunes during the season period and live on it for the rest of the year. People can have bath in all the 9 falls. This deserves special mention as it is not possible to have bath in world famous Niagra Falls or jog falls (India).
The water’s origin is another mystery that remains a favorite subject matter of discussion to tourists, scientists and geographers. In addition the water is said to contain herbal and medicinal values as it flows from hill top and passes through many vegetation.
The locals are worried about pollution and overcrowding. They fear that if the situation continues undisturbed then the place would lose its charm in the near future. Will N.G.O.’S and social activists interfere and seek the proper intervention of government in this regard?
