American Scientists had created a virus that infectum the cells of a common type of
cerebral cancer in the
rats and induces them to the self-destruction,
according to a study divulged for the Journal magazine of the National Cancer Institute.
The researchers of the Oncológico Center Anderson, of the University of the Texas, had informed that the
modified adenovirus acts on the malignant cells and provokes the autofagia process, reducing the size of the tumor and drawing out the survival. “The virus looks
telomerase, an enzyme found in 80% of the cerebral
tumors”, according to Seiji Kondo, professor auxiliary of the Department of Neurocirurgia of the Oncológico Center Anderson.
“When it enters in the cell, the necessary virus of telomerase to multiply. The fabric normal of the brain does not have the enzyme, therefore, the virus alone if multiplies in the cancerígenas cells”, added. According to scientists, the modified adenovirus could help in the fight against other types of cancer, as of col of the uterus and of prostate, that also presents telomerase. In the experiences in rodents, the researchers had detected a reduction of the tumors of 200 for 39 millimeters cubical, on average.
The rats dealt with three injections had shown an average survival of 53 days; the ones that received a virus from control, only 29. Two of the rats dealt with the modified adenovirus had survived 60 days more than and detectable cerebral tumors had not registered, say the study.
