HTML Goodies

Website Review by: Shirley

Original Author: Earthweb.com
HTML Goodies (http://www.htmlgoodies.com/) is one site that every web
developer should bookmark.  Although intended
primarily for new-
to intermediate-level developers, the material is sufficiently up to
date to be of some use even to advanced web designers.
There is a large selection of tutorials, some as basic as setting up a
first web site and an explanation of what html, http and ftp mean, and
others dealing with issues as complex as passwords, cookies, and
security.  The tutorials cover such essentials as refreshing a
page to direct users elsewhere, aligning text, creating image maps,
setting style for form elements, incorporating cascading style sheets,
linking to a database, embedding sound – and much, much, much
more.  Most importantly, not only do these tutorials explain terms
and procedures, they include snippets of script which may be
incorporated directly into the developer’s own web pages.
As well as the tutorials, there is a large collection of primers –
detailed series of basic lessons on such topics as Perl and cgi,
javascript, cascading style sheets, asp, and sql.
If the tutorials and primers are not enough, the newsletters, articles,
and discussions boards are there to provide extra assistance and to
generate more ideas for the user’s own web sites.  And if the new
designer gets stuck, HTML Goodies has brought together a group of
volunteer mentors to answer questions by e-mail; their names,
qualifications, and e-mail links are all available on the site.
HTML Goodies uses a left-side vertical menu which makes the site very
simple to navigate.  The most important menu link is “the master
list”, which contains links to all the site’s articles, every one of
which is jargon-free and easy to understand.
Wondering what dot net is all about?  This is your site.
Want to create frames?  Understand the web-safe colour
palette?  Alternate colours in a drop-down list?  Write a
simple VB script?  This is your site.  If you are a web
developer, visit once and you will return again and again.
And you will bookmark this site.
