If you are an independant
band wanting to get heard, then there is a way to do it online. The place is http://www.garageband.com. They have free membership, but it's not like you are actually getting heard for free. The catch is, you have to work in order to get heard. The work is not hard, but it is time consuming. If you have the time, and want to get heard, and are not afraid of a little constructive criticism, then here is all you have to do.
1. First you have to register for an account.
Regesteration is free, and you have to give quite a bit of personal information.
2. Second you have to get
credits to put your
songs on the site.
Getting the credits is the hard part. In order to get these credits, you must listen and review other
members' music. All members who have there music on the site have it in different catagories.
are many catagories to choose from, ranging from "Heavy Metal" to "Folk Tunes". When doing these
reviews, you you must listen to at least 90 seconds of each song, and write a review of at least 15 words.
it helps to be honest and thorough with your review. Don't just write, "It sucks" or "I don't like it." This will
not help the artist improve, and will get your membership canceled. The artist usually asks for specific
elements of their
Song to be reviewed. Try and cover these elements in your review.
3. Third, after you have enough credits it is time to submit your first song. This song has to be an original
composition. First you must convert your song to mp3 format. You can do this with any rendering
software you have, or are willing to get. Then you must submit your song by going to the website, and
submitting it online. After about 24 hours your song will appear on your "garageband" band page. Then it
is important you keep doing reviews, to keep a good review rating. The higher your review rating, the more
often your song gets heard. The more good
reviews you recieve on your song, the higher your song will
go in the
garageband charts.
There have been a few members, who have actually recieved
recording contracts, from major record companies just from submitting songs on this site.
You can also pay to have your song reviewed, by major recording artists such as Steve Earl and others.
