Abstract -Arindam Biswas Miraculous Safe It was a great achievement of army personnel who in a long, nearly
50 hours uninterrupted rescue
operation saved the life of an innocent child of six years old who had fallen into a pit of 60 feet length and 9 inches diameter near his house. Every moment of rescue operation along with activity of boy monitored in a closed circuit TV was transmitted in various satellite channels.
Millions of people of all over India and even abroad watched on TV screen in nervous state of mind. Parents of the boy were sitting besides the spot and offering prayer for safe return of their beloved child. Rescue Operation : The army personnel started their operation nearly six hour after the incident when efforts by the local people and district administration to lift the boy from the pit failed. To ensure the boy still alive, they illuminated the hole by hanging lights. Small cameras were dropped inside to monitor every movement of the boy in closed circuit TV. A team of expert doctors were immediately called to the site. Oxygen was sent through pipes and various types of food and chokolates were sent in consultation with the medical expert to keep the boy mentally and physically strong. The army personnel did not take any risk in their 50 hours marathon operation. Inside the pit there was soft mud. So, there was a lot of risk of falling mud over the boy which might cause loss of his life also. Fortunately, there was an abandoned well besides the pit which made the rescue operation little bit easier. A circular drum was fabricated at site with the help of welders. While drilling operation was in progress, drum was kept there to prevent from accumulation of mud. Operation was interrupted several times on account of rain. Presence of vips even haulted the progress of work. Drilling was continued till there was clear passage to the pit where the boy got trapped. People were overwhelmed with joy when the boy was slowly lifted by a crane wrapped in a white sheet. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Sigh prayed for the boy during rescue operation along with millions of Indians for his safe return and announced for payment of Rs. 2lacs. Haryana Chief Minister also sanctioned equal amount for the boy. Rescue operation may not be successful had not the boy shown tremendous courage, patience by remaining calm in the pit and followed the instructions given to him. It was a strange coincidence when the boy was trapped in the pit. That day was his birth day and millions of prayers did not go in vain as his life was saved.
