What Is Web 2.0?

Website Review by: freeheart

The concept of "Web 2.0" began with a conferencebrainstorming session between O'Reilly and MediaLive International.Dale Dougherty,
web pioneer and O'Reilly VP, noted that far from having"crashed", the web was more important than ever, with exciting newapplications and sites popping up with surprising regularity. There are several key principles that are believed to properly characterize Web 2.0 applications:The Web as platform;Data as the driving force;Network effects created by an architecture of participation;Innovation in assembly of systems and sites composed by pullingtogether features from distributed, independent developers (a kind of"open source" development);Lightweight business models enabled by content and service syndication; The end of the software adoption cycle ("the perpetual beta");Software above the level of a single device, leveraging the power of the long trail.
