Yet another article about the lack of health insurance coverage for our nation's children. This is becoming an all too common problem. Many people in this country who work full time, can't afford health insurance. The cost of healthcare is too much for the average wage earner, which can lead to unfortunate consequences not only for the working people of this country, but for their children as well. Many parents are reticent to take their children to the doctor, for fear of the potential medical bills. Many children with significant health problems go undiagnosed, and thus untreated. Ridiculous. Most of the medical problems that the average person has are treated the same way they were 20 years ago, only now the cost of that same care has skyrocketed. Many people are suffering needlessly with illnesses that can be treated relatively easily. Unfortunately, these people cannot afford the cost of an office visit, lab work, xrays, and prescriptions. Many of these people, when they can't take the pain and/or discomfort anymore, are forced to go to emergency rooms because they aren't welcome at doctor's offices due to lack of insurance. This puts a tremendous burden on the emergency rooms, already busy with real emergencies. Some hospitals are now charging extra fees which are payable up front, before they will see a non-emergent patient. It seems about time for the government to step in, and become more involved in the delivery of healthcare to everyone, before none of us are able to afford it.
