Sounds
interesting, doesn't it? I have seen teenaged adolescents getting inot the habit of smoking. As a non-smoker I wondered
what makes them do so. I spoke to a few of them at the first opportunityand I got some shocking responses like 'my parents smoke and since I am a second hand smoker, I am raring to try it out myself; some said that since their friends smoke they should also smoke lest they should be outlawed; while some others said that they smoke for the sake of fun'. Very few replied that they smoke to overcome stress. As is my wont, I started gathering more information on the subject of smoking and the affects of consumption of tobacco on human beings. I had a chance discovery of this site while browsing the Internet which had some startling information under the
publications section. The site is about tobacco related disease research program, and the URL is www.trdrp.org. There are excellent research papers done by Ph.D investigators. The site is broadly categorised under different heads like oveview, application, Grant adminstration, funded research and publications. An update of field activities on tobacco related disease research can be obtained through the newsletter, the annual reports and thetrdrp conference sections reflect the plethora of research activities undertaken by the organization. Honestly, after thoroughly checking the site for about 30 minutes I have come to the conclusion that intake of tobacco in any form will degenerate the human organs that directly come in contact viz., the tongue and the mouth, and equally dangerous is passive smoking. Whoever has said that smoking is fun is a misnomer.
