MODESTY
We can see that throughout history dress standards have diminished. In the past the way people dressed was
an indication of social status; the more you wore the more important you were in society. For example, slaves were often made to go naked, while royalty were draped in robes. Peasant girls, slaves and concubines often wore short dresses (mini-skirts). Even till today judges, priests, bishops and popes still wear robes. On ceremonial occasions, professors and graduates wear them as well. Many people don’t realise who is really behind the
fashion of the world. They do not realise that Satan is really controlling the minds of the people who make these new designs and styles of clothing. He is the god of this world, and he blinds the eyes of the people of the world (2 Corinthians 4:4).
Fashions and trends are part of the way Satan endeavours to deceive people. That is why the purpose of today’s fashion such as miniskirts or dresses, tight fitting and see-through clothing etc. is for women to look seductive; this leads both men and women into terrible sin.I said earlier that especially in this decade we have seen fashions and trends becoming more and more immodest; I did a research for a few years and noted the following ways by which Satan has entrapped the world:
Fashion Industry - Their mission is to make profit and would go to any length of doing so.
Media (TV, Magazines, Internet) - In this atmosphere of lively debate over what is or isn't modest, it is somewhat jarring to see magazines like Elle Girl and Teen People etc have headlines and covers promising fashion tips that will make their young readers look ‘hot’ . All girls want to appear older. So, they look around on TV and the Internet to copy what the popular, successful and rich are dressed up in thereby end up wearing clothes that are inappropriate for their mental and sexual development.
Perfectly bodied contoured celebrities - Many young girls feel self-conscious and awkward about their developing bodies and aren't quite sure how to dress. For some, though, finding clothes has been particularly complicated in the last few years as America's retailers copied the trashier-than-thou fashions worn by celebrities such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera and have thereby produced the sexy styles of low-rise pants, shrunken T-shirts and flimsy camisoles
Complexity and Depression - Teens just get depressed because they don't look like their so called role model. My mission with Modesty is not just about morals or integrity. It is about emotional health.
Self consciousness - It is all entwined in adolescent brain growth, as girls at a young age of nine try to figure out who they are. "When girls this age have their bellies hanging out, they aren't saying, 'I want to have sex.' But, they don't understand
how they dress can affect boys their age."
