Every Smallville fan remembers Christopher Reeve's heart-touching call for support at the end of second season's Rosetta. The amount of time, energy, and character that man had poured into finding a cure for paralysis is legendary, as befits the man who portrayed Superman so many times.
I know every fan would have liked to pitch in and contribute. Some have. Some couldn't afford to. I'm sure everyone wanted to contribute more than his financial state at the moment allowed him or her.
That's why I bring you this simple, free way to support the CRF. It's made possible by a site called
Good Search. As the name suggests, it's a search
engine, and it returns decent results. Like many search engines, it shows content-related ads at the top of each result page. But unlike any other search engine, it donates
half the profits to an organization of your choice.
Currently, half the profit translates into 1 cent per search. Notice that it's per search, not per click. How many of us fans are there? How many web
searches do we do every day? Together, we can add a monthly income of hundreds to the CRF -- just by changing our search habits.
All you have to do is go to www.goodsearch.com . There you'll find two
text boxes. Use the lower one to locate the CRF -- typing "Reeve" and hitting Verify should do it. The site will remember your
charity preferences every time you enter. Then use the upper text box to search as usual. That's all. Amazing how simple it is to do some good.I've been working with Good Search for several days now, and I'm intensely enjoying the added value of each search.
A word of caution: do not conduct searches for well-known sites such as Amazon or Gmail. Searches of this nature will disqualify the charity you've chosen from Good Search, and none of us want that to happen. Just use Good Search as you would use any other search engine.
This is a call to all Smallville fans to learn from the series we love so much, and work our way toward being heroes ourselves.
Thank you for listening.
