Powerpets is an free online pet-related website for both children and
adults. The original goal of the creators of
powerpets was to
make a fun, yet educational site to teach people about animals.
The site features games, quests, chat boards, "pmail" (their own
on-site email), and ways to support various animal rescue type
organizations. When a user signs up, he or she gets a "pet,"
selected from various animal breeds, to call their own. They must
name the pet, and take care of it as if it were real. The pets
get hungry, need to play, and even occasionally get sick and must be
taken to the
powerpets vet.
There is an entire section on powerpets devoted to games. By
playing the games, which are seperated into various categories, a
powerpets user can earn "powerbucks," which are used to buy various
items. The games also feature a sort of lottery, which one can
earn tickets for by getting good scores on the games, and then enter
the tickets to win a large powerbucks sum.
There are many
different quests that a user can do on this site, to
acheive different things of worth on the site. By reading "books"
and answering questions, or bringing various characters certain items,
a user can be rewarded with other, better items to use toward various
things. It may sound complicated, but it is really quite
simple. There are quests for beginners, as well as harder quests
for more experienced users, so one is sure to never be bored.
There are also various things to work for such as the title of "elite"
or "supreme elite," which are given by fufilling several requirements,
or several "stones," which are granted by doing different things on the
site.
The chat boards on powerpets are unline any other of this type of
website that I have seen. I have been a member of another, more
popular, pet type website, and there is no real interaction between
users, or especially between users and moderators/owners.
Powerpets is different. The mods and owners are constantly
present on the site, and there is even a board on which to present your
complaints or problems, and another to discuss how to make the site
better. The site is very user friendly, always seeking to fix
problems and improve the quality of the site.
The site supports, with user donations, various animal helping
organizations. The site has "adopted" financially various
animals, and always seeks to help animals whenever possible. The
site is not just to entertain people, but to educate them. I
would highly recommend Powerpets for both children and adults.
