Individual creation is a piece of art of the owner and when it comes to publishing one’s work, uploading for contests or displaying for appreciation an artist is ought to be anxious about protecting his/her piece of art. Fresh creative minds are our immediate requirement for bright future in every field. Innovative work in different grounds and creative output is what the world is craving for. It is the foundation for growth and the catalyst that prevents stagnation. Its not that the world today is falling short of intellectual individuals and ingenious art, but the fear of be exploited curbs the motivation of a fresher. This article aims at encouraging new work to be published with appropriate copyright advertisement that protects the work, and psychologically assures the creator of ownership. Writing has been my hobby and passion always, but I never thought of protecting it, since I was always under the impression that copyright needs to be registered with the government, which is a long, expensive procedure and may be it is only for professional writers. Now that I have started developing my writing skills as my secondary career through few online freelancing websites, hence I feel the need to copyright my work. The universally accepted notion of being registered with the government for copyright protection, I realized was a misunderstanding. We need to understand the basic idea of copyright, it is an advertisement published on our work, by us, to notify the viewer of its protection and a warning of legal action, taken incase of illegal duplication found. In a book as we always see the copyright advertisement is in the initial one or two pages. The idea of displaying it at the start is to warn the reader of its copyright legality initially itself. Nevertheless registering with the government is beneficial, incase if you have to file a copyright case you obtain treble of your damages, along with the payment fee of your attorney.
