Aileen Wuornos

Website Review by: Jeannie Kerns

Aileen Wuornos was neither the first nor the worst female serial
killer, although heralded by tabloids and television
talk shows as
America's first female serial killer. Suspected of 6 murders, Wuornos
was convicted and sentenced to die in 4 of the 6 cases that she
confessed to.Wuornos claimed that most of the killings were self
defense, resisting violent attacks from men as they solicited her while
she was aprostitute. In 1992 a journalist uncovered facts that seem as
though Wuornos was telling the truth.February 29, 1956, Aileen Pittman
was born in Rochester, Michigan. Her teenager parents Leo Pittman and
Diane Pratt were seperated when Aileen was born. Her father getting
ready to serve time in a mental hospital being called a deranged child
molester. Her mother recalls Aileen andher older brother Kieth as
"crying, unhappy babies", in 1960 Diane Pratt left Aileen and her
brother with her parents. On March 18, 1960,the maternal grandparents
adopted the children as their own.Aileen didn't show much improvement
with the change of households. Atthe young age of six, Aileen suffered
burns on her face from her and Keith were lighting fires with lighter
fluid. Aileen also claimed thather brother and her had started having
sex with each other at a very early age. The story could not be
verified by Keith since he died of throat cancer in 1976. Clearly
Aileen was having sex with someone since she turned up pregnant at the
very early age of 14. Aileen's son wasborn at a Deroit hospital on
March 23,1971.Aileen's grandmother who raised her passed away on July
07, 1971 ofliver failure, although there were reports that Aileen's
real mother Diane Pratt suspected her father of killing her. She also
stated that her father threatened to kill Aileen and Keith if they were
not removed from his home immediately.Wards of the court after their
grandmother died, Aileen dropped out of school becoming a prostitute
from state to state. In may of 1974, Aileen was arrested for disorderly
conduct, drunk driving and firing a gun fora moving vehicle. She used
the name "Sandra Kretsch" as they booked her into the Jefferson County
jail in Colorado. She failed to appear in court once released and more
charges were then filed.Once back in Michigan Aileen was again arrested
for assault and disturbing the peace after she chucked a cue ball at a
bartender'shead. Warrant's outstanding in Michigan were racking up.
Once arrested, she paid $105 and she was free to go.Aileen hed a chance
to make a new life once her brother passed away. Toher surprise Keith
had life insurance and Aileen was to collect $10,000dollars. After two
months of spending the money on nothing that shewould keep, Aileen was
broke again and began her life back on thestreets, this time in
Florida. May 20, 1981, Aileen was arrested for armed robbery on a
convienience store. This time there would be no fine to pay, there
would be prison.Aileen was sentenced to prison on May 04, 1982 but
released only 13 months later. Trying to pass forged checks in Key
West, Florida, Aileen was arrested once again on May 01, 1984. Released
again, Aileen would be named as a suspect in the theft of a gun and
ammunition in Pasco County, this time Aileen used the name "Lori Grody"
when processed. She was then pulled over by Florida highway patrol for
driving without a license. On January 04,1986 Aileen was once again
arrested this time with her real name and charged with auto theft,
resisiting arrest and obstruction of false information. Police also
found a .38 calibur and abox of ammunition in the stolen car that she
had been in. Police also detained "Lori Grody" on June 2nd after a man
accused her of pulling agun out on him and demanding $200 dollars. A
few days later she was again pulled over for speeding, this time using
the name " SusanBlahovec", the police officer recalled that her
attitude had been extremely poor and believed Aileen thought she was
above .A few days later Aileen met Tyria Moore in a gay bar in
Daytona. Verysoon after thaen and Tyria became lovers. There
relationship only lasted a year or so, but they still remained good
friends . July04, 1987, police detained Tina Moore and Susan Blahovec
for questioning on the suspicion of slugging a man with a beer bottle.
Nothing was done and the two women were let go once again.A month later
however Aileen decided to try a different path, this time using the
name Cammie Marsh Green. On March 12, 1988, Aileen accused a Daytona
Beach bus driver of assault, stating that he had pushed her offthe bus
after an argument. Tyria Moore was one of the witnesses policehad
spoken to. In November of 1988, Aileen once again using the name Susan
Blahovec, called a Zephyrhills supermarket 6 days straight, making
threatening remarks all over an argument about lottery tickets.By 1989
Aileen's attitude was simply erratic and belligerent. Always causing
problems, provoking arguments with complete strangers. Always carrying
a loaded gun anywhere she went. The killings begin. And Aileen works
hard to get her revenge on life.
