The legendary Bert Weedon has helped many aspiring guitarists
(including Eric Clapton) to realise their dreams. It
was with publications
like this and his talent for making learning easy and fun that turned him
into a household name. This particular issue 'Play In A Day' Bert
Weedon's Guitar Guide to Modern Guitar Playing, was published by
Chappell and Co Ltd in 1957 when fifties Rock and Roll was changing
the face of popular music and every teenager wanted to play a guitar
'Just Like Eddie' (Cochran that is). It cost 5 shillings at the time and
features include a forward by Bert himself, pictures and descriptions of
different types of guitar, how to hold one, how to tune and how to read
chord windows. It covers the rudiments of music and progressively takes
the learner through different styles, techniques and rythms. Considering
this guide is nearly fifty years old it has survived remarkably well and
would make the perfect compliment to a collection or serve a very useful
practical alternative, The cover shows evidence of the sort of wear and
tear you would expect from an item that has been around for such a
long time. The contents (printed mono black) are intact although the
pages show some discolouration (yellowing). The first page is marked by
pen where someone has signed their name in the past. Apart from that
one blemish the rest of the guide is in acceptable condition for its age.
