Alt.com is an online friend/sex finder website, mainly designed for
those in the BDSM lifestyle, or those at least interested in
BDSM. It is very similar to its related website, adult friend
finder, and seems to be run by the same people.
When one registers on alt, they then go through and
fill out a profile with tons of information about themselves.
They can upload up to 5 pictures for people to see, tell info about
themselves and what they are looking for in a person, fill out
information about their physical appearance, and answer additional
questions about many aspects of their lives, including a fetish checklist which is extremely thourough.
Once the profile has been filled out and approved (which can take up to
48 hours), the person is ready to begin using the search features or
looking for "love dog matches" (people who match their predescribed
settings). The only problem is, as a regular member, you cannot
actually view other people's profiles unless they are the very rare
gold member that has paid extra for anyone to see their profile.
Only people who have paid money can freely view any member's
profile. In addition, there is no real way to contact people as a
standard member, other than "winking" at them, which just alerts the
other person that you were interested.
There is one additional way that standard members can temporarily view
other's profiles. If your own profile is viewed a certain number
of times within a small period, you are rewarded for having an
interesting profile by being allowed to view 50 profiles and email
those 50 people. This reward is about the only hope that a
standard member has of contacting someone unless the other person
contacts them first (standard members are allowed to reply to emails if
they are contacted).
The site also has various chat rooms (including one that is
specifically for webcam use, and one that is for posting pictures), a
blog system, a magazine where
users can submit articles or questions, and a network system where you
can view more photos of people that you like. I am sure that as a
gold or silver member, the site has many good things. However, as
a standard member, it promises much and does not deliver nearly as
much.
