Life is full of choices and it is often left to us to make the right decision. But what is right ? Who sets the limits and who is to judge us ? If the pros and cons of every action are to be considered then it will indeed be very difficult to survive.
It is often said that the heart is the guiding star of our
lives. So when it comes to decision making, maybe it is a fair deal to do as our hearts please. This may not be practical and feasible at all times, and may even be bizarre and immoral. All this is, of course, in the opinion of others. Has one ever wondered what makes us regret ? If seen closely, it is many times in fear of social acceptance. We work all day to please others and also to assure a good life for ourselves. So is it very wrong if we take a few hours off our own schedules to do something for our own selves that would hurt no one ? In my opinion, no.
No
matter what our education and what our values, some basic desires are universal and common to all. As youths, standing at the thresholds of a new,
independent life, we are often flooded with choices. These may be career
related, love related or just fun related. I guess the temptation is the greatest at this
stage as we have financial
independence and yet are not emotionally independent. The emotional aspect acts as a great barrier as feelings of guilt and fears of disappointing our elders creep in.
It is a hard and confusing stage. But as young adults we have to allow ourselves to
let go. The protected, pampered and precious little “child” no more exists and so our actions may not bring as much of a terrible consequence as we fear. We are what we are and no one really holds the authority to change the persons we are. We are much too old for that—the teenage life is long gone ! So if we are confident of ourselves and believe in our selves, then the confidence should be the weapon to fight indecision.
So let us start our lives with a positive zeal to live a brand new dream. Maybe steering our lives in a new direction is the impetus needed to take us to the doors of success. Make the effort to make decisions that face you with challenges. We have had it easy so far with guidance and advice at every step. But independence is ours for the taking, and we should grab it with both hands. Maybe we will cruise away, maybe we will fail at first, but no matter what, it will be OUR attempt and that is motivation enough to get up and get going. Take the plunge, because quitters never win and winners never quit !
