HTML Goodies (http://www.htmlgoodies.com/) is a website which every webdesigner should add to his Bookmarks. Even though
the site is mainly aimed at newbies and slightly experienced designers, it is still sufficiently up to date, so that experienced designers also may enjoy it.
It holds a great selection of
instructions and guides, some quite basic, such as setting up the first web page and an explanation of the terms html, http and ftp. Others deal with such complex subjects as as passwords, cookies and security. The instructions covers highly relevant subjects, like updating a homepage by an extern user, text editing,
creation of image files, creation and design of dialogue boxes. creating and defining different typographical pages (CSS), linking to databases, adding sound and much, much more. In addition to the fact that the instructions covers definitions and processes, they also contain bits of code, which the visitor can use directly in his own web designs. Apart from the instructions, there is a great selection of detailed introductions to subjects such as Perl, cgi, javascript, cascading style sheets (CSS), asp and sql.
Should the instructions prove insufficient, the site also holds newsletters, articles and a discusion board, which can be of further assistance and contain new ideas for the users own web pages.
HTML Goodies also has a staff of volunteer mentors, who can answer questions and help by email, if a designer finds himselg completely stuck. The qualifications and e-mail addresses of these mentors are available on the site. HTML Goodies uses a vertical menu on the left side of the screen, making navigation very easy. The single most important menu is "The Master List", which contains links to all the articles of the site, each and everyone of theese written in a language free of local jargon, which is easy to understand.
