The inevitable has finally arrived--Destiny's Child has announced that the group will disband after the conclusion of their highly anticipated world tour. Cleverly, the
girls went to the
media before the media came to them, as they released a statement to MTV News earlier this month, seemingly diverting away from what may actually be true.
The girls, of course, all assert that the
breakup was a mutual decision, and was quite amiable. Since original members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson were booted in 1999, and the departure of replacement member Farrah Franklin, the girls of Destiny's Child have been no strangers to drama. It has been no surprise that they have chosen to make their timely breakup seem pleasant. With the release of their aptly titled album, Destiny Fulfilled, the girls totally alluded that the trio had accomplished all that they could working together, and that they end was near.
But the demise of Destiny's Child only means the rise of the overwhelming star of the group, Beyonce. Last year, the
group took a break so that they could each sample a taste of all the glorious accoutrements that accompany a solo career, a break that many anti-fans simply dismissed as an excuse for lead singer Beyonce to experience the limelight on her own. As Kelly and Michelle also tried their hand at solo careers, their success was comparably mild to Beyonce's.
In an interview with the Associated Press, the girls were vague when being questioned about their futures together or otherwise.
The women pledge to remain close friends. But it's only a matter of time before Kelly and Michelle tire of watching Beyonce have all of the fun, and roll over the line that separates playing the role of a supportive friend and being envious. After all, they're only human.
