Drama writer Michael Kudwara is enthusing about the awards in New York
for Broadway and Off Broadway Productions ... apparently the society or
group known as "The Drama Desk" was founded in 1949 ...
I have during my illustrious past visited New York and gone around theatre
land of Broadway and Off Broadway streets ... funnily enough I found a
Pancake House and stopped with family to have a light bite which took
the pressure off my feet ... it was a great day for the theatre writer and
playwright or poet ... all of us contributing to that notion of literary and
theatre success at that point in time ... nostalgic look back at the 1980s.
Back to the news of Who''s Who In Winning the Prizes ... well,
Tom Stoppard has won head first with UTOPIA ... and such is the
wealth of his work it is agreed by Michael Kudwara that it is much
deserved.
Another of my own favourites has also won .... Vanessa Redgrave for a
Solo Performance in this competition. Title: The Year of Magical Thinking I am not sure if my other choice
won but he does get a mention ... Frost/Nixon Interview, and I believe
in this instance, the actor in the performance took the prize ...
Stephen Sondheim has won - a walk down memory lane ...a nostalgic look back at Sondheim''s great achievement in the theatre.
Its always a pleasant experience when your favourite artist wins but this is not
always the case ... I am often surprised when I stick a pin in a newspaper rather like horse racing and my favourite doesnt come out .. its looks as if its anybody''s game, or
win in this instance.
However, in the case of these awards, the Giants of Theatre are leading with
the prizes and awards ...
Excellent blog from Associated Press Drama Writer: Michael Kudwara ... keep on reading the blog .. great stuff!
