Our American friends have just emailed information on their big
National
Holiday ... the 4th of July and its very interesting to
read how they choose to celebrate their National Holiday..
Apparently its a great day for the family and everyone has a "get together" ..
one person who wrote is a Busy Chef said that they are having
pasta and hotdogs and hopefully even though the temperature is
90 degrees they plan to hold a barbeque ... sounds enviable ... I
feel I want to be there too.
The Benjamin Franklin tradition doesnt interest the modern American
that much and the holiday has more of a festive than I suppose
Political or Religious connection these days ... some say Americans
used to sit down at table, rather like us folk out here in Britain and
give Thanks at the dinner
table to the Lord for all the goodness they
received in America ...
Its a custom too that is forgotten and very few schools or Universities
that I have taught in bother with it at all, though when I was at
school in the 1950s we all said "Grace before meals" and nobody would
pick a spoon off the table until the prayer was completed ...
Bless us Oh! Lord
and Bless America on this their 4th of July National Holidays ...
take care to enjoy life on earth it is short and sweet ... and dont
get too fat eating all that pasta. I know the route well, other wise
like me you have have to exericise with Health and Fitness Club
forever!
