Its interesting when you tune into one of the world''s most prestigious
programmes on Classical Music and the guy presenting it is
a /gardener/ or at least has been seen hugely on television
digging gardens, still I suppose it takes all sorts.
The whole thing of 4th of July in America and the great celebrations
throughout the United States on 4th of July absolutely intrigue me -
afterall everyone loves a party.
I listened diligently last night to local radio and there was an interview
trans-Atlantic from Southampton to New York and the presenters in
each country commented that they were intrigued by the 4th of July Celebrations
in New York - and it was agreed that Fireworks formed a large part of it
and having and eating hotdogs and burgers ... and competitions surrounding
hotdogs are /all the rage/ in America.
On a more serious note the Philadelphia issue was raised by Associated
Press where the Declaration of Independence was signed - the symbolic
signing is signalled by ringing a Liberty Bell ...
And the radio presenter on the New York side of /link up/ said that
its 231 years since the Signing of the Document in America and she
regarded it as "America''s Birthday Party" ... as I listened the
thought crossed my mind that it was a wonderful way of putting it ...
since the U.S. was "dumping" the Mother Country, i.e. England.
But then again, there is a phrase about our "American cousins" and
how this link has continued throughout time and space .... an
interesting notion if ever I heard one.
Apparently in Mass. State too the BostonPops were all the way
up at the top of the
Pops and I must admit that I enjoyed the
Boston Pops several years ago as I was a passenger on
United Airlines USA flight from San Francisco California to
London, England and I tuned in to the Boston Pops it was
incredibly relaxing and enjoyable in my executive jet costing me - a lot of my hard earned savings ... but then again I
stood on the
red Carpet in San Francisco so I suppose that
sort of thing is a /once in a lifetime/ event ...
Happy 4th of July to the United States of America ... may you
walk in the light!
