Rushing here and there I came back before the rain started falling again
and I thank my lucky stars that we are more
fortunate here living as I do
very far south - we have had some heavy rain but nothing like the
floods that are occurring in other parts of the country.
Queen Guitarist is to complete his Doctorate: in translation,
Brian May of the Group/Queen is 60 and 30 years on he wishes
to finish his doctorate; he was at the height of fame with the
group QUEEN when Freddy Mercury died in 1991 from Aids.
Apparently he doesnt wish to have an
honourary doctorate but
wishes to embrace the real thing. He''s so lucky he can afford
to pick and choose. There are many famous people who have
received honourary doctorates and they are more than
pleased to accept such honours.
Among them I recall former President Bill Clinton, John McCarthy,
John Hume I believe, received an Honourary Doctorate and
Hillary Clinton has such a
qualification as well. Wendy Cope
the English Poet, Joanna Lumley actress also ... so I suppose
for the more academic rock star or world celebrity there is a dilution
of the qualification with the handing out of the Doctorate to such
extraordinarily gifted people.
But I take Brian May''s point I am sure if you came up the hard
way you dont look for "hand outs" and prefer to plod along at
your own pace even if if takes 30 years to complete your
thesis!
Happy studenting to Brian May, or shall I say, hard work pays dividends ...
again thanks to AP and to yahoo.com - excellent stuff!
