Ray Davies of the Kinks has had an attempt on his life in the USA and
the man who perpetrated this crime has got off.
Ray Davies together with others founded in British Group The Kinks
in 1963 and went on to make world headlines and create /best sellers/
with "Lola" and other hits.
I recall with clarity how successful this group was and I remember too
the quaintness of the style and unique charm of Ray Davies and his
Kinks group - there was a freshness of approach hitherto unknown
in
popular music.
The music of the Kinks lives on and the interesting notion is posited
of the Kinks being as big in the Pop Charts as say the Beatles or
the Rolling Stones ... I suppose in those days, when I was a mere
bank official it seemed to me that the halls of banking were paramount
in my life and the story of pop bands and record breaking history in
popular music was a side line ... a hobby which I took into my busy
schedule mostly at the weekend in the country.
In fact I was given a portable record player and every now and then I lugged it up to
my City flat and played a couple of my favourite tracks of popular music to
my flat mates - we were in total 7 girls - and were famous for our
debutante like way of going on .. so they used to say in the 1960s.
But as far as Ray Davies is concerned his group was as big as the
Beatles and as popular certainly as far away as Italy where I went on
holiday with my banking companion ... but it was "hard cheese" if you
turned on any music in English and always best in order to keep the
peace to dance to Italian music and listen to Italian Opera. We were
invited to La Scala Opera House in Milan but unfortunately could not
attend as our coach was departing at 6 am for another European
destination.
In those days there were rival gangs rather like today''s football fans
re which group was the "best" I will come out and say Ray Davies and
The Kinks were as good as The Beatles and the Rolling Stones ... put
together!
