I read with interest the blog on Film maker Ingmar Bergman and note his
passing at 89 years old - he lived a full and enthralling life as a world
famous film maker.
His beloved Sweden played a major part in his film making and I suppose
I first met his work through television in the UK and the name of the
series was .... Scenes from a Marriage in 1973 ... I was living as a
housewife and mother in Winchester and I remember clearly watching
this series of programmes .. I found it mind blowing at the time ...
Bergman has been greatly honoured throughout the world not least in
America where he was nominated for an Academy Award and is quoted as
saying he was /scared of death/
Woody Allen another major film director from America attended Bergman''s 70 birthday
and is quoted as saying Bergman was the greatest film maker of modern times...
He was the son of a Lutheran clergyman and housewife and he is survived
by his daughter Eva Bergman ... the funeral hasnt been set yet but it will
be attended by a circle of close friends and family according to TT news
Bergman too closely portrayed the work of August Stringberg and staged
Stringberg''s plays from 1963-1966.
I suppose for the 20th Century Ingmar Bergman was a giant among movie
makers and will be remembered throughout the world for his great
contribution to film making in modern times.
I must admit I liked his work and in those youthful days of my life
I enjoyed tuning in to /Scenes from a Marriage/ a television series
in Six parts ---- excellent viewing ... in 1973 ....
