The
controversy continues about the wearing of scarves and other
religious headgear
in Turkey. I receive
a daily and a regular blog from Turkish blog USA and the
new news is that Mustafa Bumin an important Official in Turkey fears that the
people wearing headscarves and turbans and other forms of
religious headwear
will not be permitted to enter the Universities in Turkey.
When I was working there the
controversy was around the ban on women wearing the headscarf ... they were not permitted to attend the University if they wore the Headscarf and a lot of girls were not able to take up their position at University if they could not - on religious grounds - deal with the controversy in Turkish Universities surrounding the wearing of the scarf/turban and other religious headwear.
I suppose for the teacher its a problem to deal with other cultures and its pointed out that Turkey is 98 per cent Muslim ... and I gather that Ramadan is now started which is the religious month of all Muslims and in Turkey is is apparent when Ramadan
has begun.
When I was teaching in Central Turkey the preparation for Ramadan had begun and the people and my students were strict Muslims and were observing the religious
beliefs and conventions of Ramadan as well as the wearing of scarves and turbans
and other religious headwear in Turkey/I called my former employer and I guess he is "On Ramadan" pardon my intrusions ... will contact him when its over ...
Excellent stuff from Turksih blogs www.yahoo.com ... keep on reading the blogs ...
