Make some sense of it ... you have have heard about
international competitions and the results are:
UK : No: 1:
Ireland: No: 2
USA: No: 3 and so on ...
and you sit there in your chair without a care in the world watching the competitors
sweat it out ... each person in the
competition trying
harder and harder to outmatch
outwin and outstretch his or her opponent. I used to think that they only way
forward is to wish your opposite number in the competition on the international
set to win and then you at least had a good chance of doing something in that line yourself ... I always know when I call a Professional Contact of mine in Turkey if he is in a good mood its because his country has
won some very prestigious award such as the Nobel Prize for Literature or won something in sport and thats what all the good humour is about .... that we have been beaten into the ground yet again ...but I have to lie down and take it ... play the sporting challenge to the hilt and anybody can throw anything they like at me it doesnt matter as long as I lose at the highest point in the competition level.
The latest gimmick is to beg for money and even the United States of America is guilty of that ... one would think that the richest country in the world would want to give money away, even to me ... alas! no! ... I receive begging emails even in
poetry circles where the money is slim and at best, non-existent at the best of times .... poetry certainly isnt
cricket ... and besides nobody cares what you wear when your poem wins or loses in the National Poetry Competition ... unlike cricket where everyone of the players wears white
Keep on winning at those International Poetry Competitions and I am sure the money will come eventually with enough application and patience ... happy tutoring days as a poet .....
