Inheritance and the good looks of your ancestors came upon me like a dawning of a beautiful day where everything you feel that was outside your scope suddenly falls on your lap.
Its a really of elation and exhileration so I tuned into Radio 3 and was listening again to
the
Great War Broadcaster and Journalist John SImpson being interviewed on the occasion of yet another great book title ..."Not Quite World''s End" ....I had been flying out to
Istanbul, Prague, San Francisco, Dublin, via London and when waiting at the side for
clearance to leave Britain I would walk around the Bookstores and discover John
Simpson''s writings.
Simpson has a wonderful way of making great events seem close and world shattering news seem like a great play or an even greater dramatic event ... I suppose its his life and he alone can explain it in exact detail .. John Simpson talks a lot about his baby son as I gather he has been married more than once and speaks of his age which is now 63 ... in 30 years : Simpson said: I will be an old man ... when my son grows up ... so its good to see that Simpson doesnt intend to quit his journalistic life or give up on his
readership.
Simpson has a wonderful
story about covering Saddam Hussein''s capture and when the US Troops were about to go into The Hole In The Ground to arrest Saddam Hussein ...Simpson managed to pick up a slipper belonging to Saddam Hussein which he
brought back to London and keeps this slipper as a trophy .... a great piece of history in the making ...
I had heard a similar story where a young boy was in Berlin before the
Wall came down and he picked a bit of the wall off and brought it back to England as a trophy and kept it on his desk in his
room .. what a coincidence ..
Happy
reading in this new book of John SImpson ... great stuff .. keep on reading the blogs ..
