Put it in anyway ... often a colourful use of language so I did precisely that. I was
reminded of childhood devotions when my best friend at school and I
went off to
pray the
rosary at the local church ... we used to chat about it at school and
then off we would go at the crack of dawn to say our prayers ... we both felt the power of it ...
and we were only 10 years old that it was a perfect opportunity to kneel in
front of this beautiful iconic wall hanging of the Madonna and Child ... to us
it seemed absolutely heavenly ... and take our rosary
beads with us and
say the rosary ... quietly. ...
The other occasion that sticks out in my mind was the country practice that was
held to in Ireland during the 1950s ... before going to
bed every member of the
housefhold got down on their knees and knelt close to a farm house chair
and prayed the rosary out loud. There was much talk about whether or not
the chief person said the prayers ...... fast or slow ... and the assembled
children and adults were ready for the trimmings to the rosary ... the petitioning
that went on was something shocking in the mind of the child but in the
adultworld nothing to write home about. Passing those examinations was of key
importance .. and for the adult
praying the sick well and the injured .. better and
fully recovered from the praying of the rosary ... it was then washed and to bed ...
a full house in those days of not less than eleven people I guess!
I was given a present of rosary beads for my continuing First
Communion and Confirmation Services ... to make first communion and to be confirmed ... and I treasured these rosary beads all through my childhood and working life ... but one night a thief came ... and stole the rosary beads .... and I never clapped eyes on them since then - that was in 2000... so its good to get an update from this excellent leaflet on the Rosary and its accomplishments ... /The Rosary in its simplicity and its depth/ reference: Pope John Paul II Rosarium Virginis Mariae .. keep on reading the blogs ...
