Every time someone raises the issue of 11 plus exams ... failing schools, or
ultimately failing children it reminds
me of the "class war". Nothing will
change unless you change your attitude ... drop from your speech all the
offending phrases ... otherwise all the language becomes dated, ridiculous
and inflammatory.
The Class War continues to trail blaze right across one''s life .. and yet it
has to be said that life is not about fair play ... everybody getting a turn
at being good ... knowing your place in life.. . sitting tight until the end ... all these
phrases are all very well in their own way but the Class War has been talked
about so many times that it surely must have slipped out the door of educational
centres when nobody was looking.
I cannot see a way out of it ... why do we engage in outmoded phrases or
is it back to the pony and trap in education ... do we congratulate the teachers on their successes or their failures ... obviously
success breeds success.
One man''s meat is another man''s poison! Just a moment or two ago I received an email from Prague Revue thanking me but saying "no thanks" to "story" ... I
replied rather hotly that I have already published my stories in New Fiction ... back came the reply ... oh! sorry .... I meant your poem .... I replied but my poems are in a book ... back again ... I will take your advice ... its all in the way we use language ...
A loaded issue like the Class War ... can seem to go on for most of our lives ... if we let it ... surely its time to bury the hatchet ... forget about the language of our parent generation and invent our own lingo ... and instead of the Class War I suggest
The Class of ..... Who''s Who In International Poetry ... would seem to fit the bill nicely ... heated debates still are the backbone of the day .... spiced up writing ... keep on reading the blogs ...
