The British Council has a mandate of forwarding British Culture and British life overseas and it was announced on BBC Radio that its offices were closed in Russia and the staff of the British Council were deported in relation to the scandal of the Russians last year who were deported back to Russia ...
The British Council has a wide net in relation to world education specifically focusing on English Language and Literature and the whole emphasis has been lately on the British view of stream lining qualifications. Other countries are not as narrowly focused in their approach to English Language and Literature so there is something of a culture base here that
is held to be the British Council''s view and that of the British Government.
Usually when you cut out say someone of great importance because of a too selective approach then there will be trouble afoot I assure you. In America they have a broad based approach to teaching English including Language and Literature and dont seem to get the same problems as the British Council.
However, the solution is to invite from a wide and diverse range of products and people and then there is no sense in someone being overlooked or left out of serious matters in Linguistics ... everyone has a place at the table and everyone is welcome!
Interesting intelligence on the British Council in Russia .. keep on reading and blogging.
