Effects of colors to our moods and emotions

Scientist rather than artists have studied the effects of Color on vision and emotion on human efficiency and safety. They have worked out new and important uses for color because it is so important in our daily lives. Color is more than just beautiful or appealing it also cater to our physical and emotional needs. It can makes us tired or refreshed and or happy, ill at ease or comfortable.

Warm colors – are the most aggressive. More than any other color, it attracts the eye and excites our emotions, It increases blood pressure and pulse rate. In workplace, Warm colors heighten our motivation and can make us work faster. And on ads, posters and magazines, they almost always grab our attention. It creates an exuberant and cheerful appeal to the eyes. The warm colors includes the hues from red to yellow, including orange, pink, brown and burgundy.

Cool colors – It includes the hues from green to violet, including blue and all the shades of gray, are known as cool colors – It exactly has the opposite effect with that of warm colors. It slows down the body metabolism and pulse rate. It is used in hospital to calm a manic patient.

Light colors – it looks soft and foamy like cotton. The hues are relatively unimportant it can have the light shades of orange and purple and thus make a fairy-tale quality.

Dark Colors – Black and other dark shades feel heavy. Black in particular seems as strong and solid as the cast-iron boiler of an old fashioned locomotive. Dark, red, dark purple, dark green and dark blue are colors most often associated with royalty and have an aura of almost an exultant dignity.
Vivid colors - have powerful personality. Red stands out but blue and yellow are also Vivid colors contrastingly so as white and black however, when you combine two or more vivid colors will have a striking effect. For some uses this is fine; bright contrasting colors are often used in a fast-food restaurants and in children toys and clothing. But perhaps the eye tires of them so quickly.

Dull colors - When gray is added to a color, the personality of the color is softened if you add enough gray, the results is a muddy shade . Our eye instinctively prefers bright vivid colors, dull colors are annoyingly weak and diffuse and create a blurry impression. However, dull colors help to reduce tension and can give color schemes a meditative dream like mood. Dull colors run the effect of looking flat, so use at least one vivid color as an accent to your color scheme.

In applying these color scheme we may take consideration of the possible perception of the viewer. We should apply color that will suits the personality of our intended market.
