City Transportation - Choice of Car, Train or Bicycle
In today's urbanised society many of us finds ourselves living far away from the office which is usually in the city centre. Many employer requires the employee to be punctual for work which is usually 9am whether rain or shine. As such, early morning scene is a typical rat race of office workers scrambling to reach their office on time. The mode of transport is usually the motorcar for the wealthy, tube or train and bus for the typical worker and bicycle or walking for the fitness conscious.
Having a motorcar allows one to have the luxury and comfort of waking up late and travelling in air-condition comfort in a car. People who owns a car do not mind staying far from their office as they could rach office on time with their car. However, the nightmare may start the minute the car leave the house. There is usually a morning and evening traffic jam on the roads and highway, frequent road accident and difficulty of finding parking space in city centre. Driving a car in morning and evening rush hour requires a great deal of patience with the constant car horning in the background.
For a typical office worker the way to work is usually via the tube or train and public buses. Taking a city train is usually more comfortable than buses. The train tends to follow a time schedule, is air-condition and is relatively fast. However peak hour early morning and evening traffic means one has to really squeeze into the train in a crowded pack. It can be quite unpleasant to be sandwich between so many office worker for the daily journey to and from office. Taking a bus requires patience as it may not always arrive on time and it is subjected to traffic on the road.
With growing concerns about global warming many health conscious worker choose to travel to work on bicycle or on foot. This would achieve the twin objective of cutting down on carbon emission thus saving the environment and also promoting healthy living by exercising through cycling or walking. This is an increasingly prefer mode of transport for many young working adult.
The minute one wakes up from the bed it is usually follow by a scramble to have breakfast, dress and rush for work. The choice to reach office would be in the form of driving, taking a train or bus or cycling/walking to work. Surprisingly more people has chosen the unorthodox mode of cycling and walking reflecting growing concern about global warming and healthy living. Maybe one day there will be more bicycles then cars on the road which is already happening in certain countries.
