and Prunella Scales .. and the funny title of Ladies of Letters/Credit Crunch is an amusing two hander which centres on quick dialogue covering such diverse themes as laptops, living in garden sheds, the previous credit crunch, living with the family, going to Church and then stopping going to Church! The Two ladies played by Prunella Scales and Patricia
Routledge are writing it seems to each other as one lady sent the other lady a letter without a stamp and she complains that she had to pay a fine plus postage for this error - so she sent her pal and envelope containing first class stamps and hoped they arrived safely. The other running joke is that one of the lady of letters has a grandson who is African and is adopted! Adopted : Adoption: are two words that are brandished about rather like daggers at a play where you are supposed to pretend to stab people in the back and you are not really going to kill people .. its only pretend ... the fierceness of the word .. adoption has connotations of slavery .. where they buy their own black person or whomever they choose and one of the ladies gets him going on her computer to save money on her IT Man!
Oddly enough, the phrase IT man is a watering down of the prestige afforded to those of who are IT .. Internet & Technology experts as the Ladies of Letters see us as Trade .. sorry old girls, trade is not IT .. trade is the credit crunch and IT is the computer .. enjoyable listening at Bank Holiday May Day ... on BBC Radio 4 ... and thats only episode 1 ... nice work!
