Its been a most enjoayable afternoon on BBC Radio and I tuned into Radio 3 and Andrew Motion former Poet Laureate of the UK was reading poetry and Motion's focus was Rupert Brook ... he made sterling remarks about Rupert Brook : The Turks: and Constantinople now Istanbul!
I suppose reading is an aspect of writing that is now getting an airing but the tones of the reader seem to be more important than the message he is communicating .. for example Andrew Motion has a decided Upper Class Accent and this suits down to the ground the area in which I live the Southern Counties of England. Here anyone saying .. ee by gum ........... or theres nought for nothing ........ would be whispered about all over the country and they would feel so desperate they would hire me the Word Doctor which in fact they have done!
However, Andrew Motion needs a listener and we all provide our services free gratefully yours and so on and as members of the London Poetry Society see us all on www.poetrysociety.org.uk Great work!
The New Poet Laureate in Andrew Motion's Old Job ... and Motion worked as Poet Laureate for 10 years - is Carole Anne Duffy a woman ... much is made at the Poetry Society in London of Duffy's sex .. she is the first woman Poet Laureate at 55! Congratulations to Duffy! Nice work!
