Image Sensor (CIS).
CCD has a mature technique but a high
cost. With the light-sensitive lens, it has a certain depth of field, which is
convenient to scan physical objects. However, due to their larger components,
CCD scanners are generally relatively heavy.
CIS technique has a low cost and is
light and handy. Nevertheless, it must contact with the object with little gap
owing to its scanning way which is contacting closely to the surface of the
manuscript. Otherwise, the result of original manuscript scanning will be
affected. Besides, the CIS scanner cannot be used to scan physical objects.
Of course, the scanners' routine work is
necessary with software support. Gaenerally, matched software is the OCR text
recognition software and graphic image editing software. Different brand's
scanners are equipped with separate software, but only difference in the method
of operation, with the same purpose.
