MEDIA GREATS

Website Review by: AVIATOR HARDEEP

                                            MEDIA GREATS
Starting
with the BBC; it has unbelievably fluent, eloquent and master orator Lyse doucet. She is a wonder and have personally never heard her fumbling, faltering or at loss of words. Her lip movement, when she speaks is a delight to watch. Nick Gowing is another brilliant newsreader. Exceptionally beautiful Lucy hawkings is no exception either. She keeps me glued to the TV. I hope my wife isn’t reading this. Jonathan Charles has also assumed desk duties taking a break from hot spots’ reporting. He truly deserves this present role. Among the Indian channels, undoubtedly the NDTV 24*7 is the best. Some of its outstanding news- readers are Sonia singh, Priyanka, Ankita mukherjee, Sonali Chandra of sports section, the pleasing and beautiful Shailly chopra of NDTV profit, the list is endless. The CNN-IBN is fast catching up and has added some breath-taking men and women readers to its impressive contingent. Rajdeep sardesai truly deserves a pat on his back.  Talking about the print media, I confess having grown up reading ‘The Tribune’ alone and forming an inseparable bond with it. The paper has a list of its greats. Exceptional and regular contributors like G Parthasarthy(former diplomat),who has tremendous knowledge of world and strategic affairs provides its readers with some eye-opening and plain-truths. His greatest strength being the ability to call a spade, a spade. I am sure he is placed on the top of hawks’ list in the Pakistani circles. I wish he becomes the NSA. Other contributors like K Subramanian, Gen Malik, Gen Harwant singh, Maj Gen Ashok Mehta, S Nihal singh, Air marshal R S Bedi and many others share their rich experiences and advise the ruling establishment through their forceful write-ups. From the list of the Tribune’s own men, we have Amar chandel whose write-ups, articles laced with humour are a treat for the readers. If you can bring a smile on the faces of hard pressed people , you are no less than an angel.  Naveen S Garewal, Aradhika sekhon, Aditi tandon, Chitleen K sethi, and  H Kishie singh etc. are all assets of the Tribune. Another man who is a regular contributor to the ‘middles’ of The Tribune and writes exceedingly well is, Harish Dhillon, the former head of lawrence school, sanawar. From somberness to humour the change in his articles is conspicuous and refreshing for a reader.

Political parties too have their own master orators and rely heavily on their services. They are their greatest links to the masses. Parties’ opinion and stand on sensitive issues trickles down the masses through these crowd pullers. The best spokespersons I have ever heard over the years were the ones speaking for the Israeli government. They were simply astounding. You can seldom ask for more. The language, aggression and the ability to give legitimacy to the actions of the successive Israeli governments which otherwise is often termed as ‘excessive use of force’ or ‘Gross violation of human rights’ lies with these men. And they seldom fail. One such statement which I can never forget and I quote, is; “My message to the Palestinians is; you let our children go to school, we will let your children go to school”, unquote. Something which most governments and their spokespersons can’t think of. And finally it would be unjust if you do not mention Navlot singh Sidhu, the former indian cricketer. What ever controversy he may be in or what ever book he may be referring to, as many of his critics accuse him of, the man knows how to speak. It’s a pleasure listening to him whether he is briefing the press, at cricket controversies or at the laughter shows. He has the extra ordinary ability to elicit answers from his opponents with a tinge of laughter. No doubt he is doing the Yadvindrians(his school YPS) proud. And have a look at his dressing sense! You seldom find a Sardar so handsomely dressed.
