Have you ever been hammered down like a nail?  If not, I bet you'll beg for one after I shared you a long - time secret that I had been keeping in my treasure box for a quite sometime.  To cut the suspense short, please read on as I reveal to you an ancient rule in economics that had been present on earth since the 18th century.  The man who shared with me this secret is no other than Mr. Gary Bencivenga, an award - winning guru in the copywriting industry in America.  In his write - ups he is referring to the Pareto Principle, also known as the 80/20 rule, or the law of the vital few and the trivial many.  Its author is no other than the obscure Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto.  To apply the rule, you must devote what really matters in your life to produce the biggest result of your endeavor.  Mr Pareto had found a principle in economics of society that about 20 percent of the people invariably control about 80 percent of wealth.  Later Vilfredo Pareto and other economists had found out - that in virtually all human activities, a small percentage of factors(the "vital few") controls the vast majority of the results.  Simply put, just 20 percent of your daily activities are responsible for 80 percent of your success, income, and personal happiness.  Sometimes it doesn't always work out to be exactly 80/20.  At times the pattern is 90/10, sometimes 70/30.  Sometimes it's even 99/1, where just 1 percent of the factors will give you 99 percent of the benefits.  Master the "vital few" factors, you can generally reap 80 percent of the gains.  He is also citing from a  brilliant consultant and investor Richard Koch, who describes the Pareto Principle in his book, The 80/20 Principle: The Secret  to Success by Achieving More w/ Less: "The 80/20 Principle asserts that a minority of causes, inputs, or effort usually leads to a majority of the results, outputs, or reward.  After Gary had realized in his profession as a copywriter in an ad agency, he became a fanatic about preserving and expanding his writing time.  He even preferred to become a hermit, and lived in isolation in the company's office.  Can you guess what happened?  Within a few months, he came out of nowhere to be the golden boy of the copy department because he was cranking out so many ads that their clients loved.  A fair number of his ads started winning in the marketplace, and he was a made man.  After a few assessment he went freelance, eventually negotiated loyalty agreements, and then in short order became financially independent.  All from recognizing - and then giving maximum time to - what generates his biggest reward.  Had it not been for this compelling bullet and some others that come to my mail box each month that I wouldn't have rekindled my almost flickered joy in writing.
