Research In Motion (RIM) announced that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone and BlackBerry Curve 9360 to be smart-phone NFC (Near Field Communication) SIM-based first MasterCard Worldwide receiving certification as a device that can be used for PayPass.

BlackBerry smartphones deemed to have met the standard functionality, interoperability and security requirements from MasterCard. With this certification, every bank in the world issuing MasterCard PayPass MasterCard PayPass account can run into the SIM card that uses these two smartphones.

"MasterCard is proud to be the first BlackBerry smartphone in pursuing certification as a means of obtaining consumer mobile payments and alternative payment methods are simple, easy, safe and comfortable. We're happy to extend this leadership role to the mobile payments arena, "said Mung Ki Woo, Group Executive, Mobile at MasterCard Worldwide.
