This week at Futurecom 2011 in Sao Paulo, the pay TV market suffered a big splash with the announcement of the arrival of GVT TV, developed by the company as a new business model. Details about the new service were unveiled on the morning of Thursday (15), promising to unite cutting-edge technology and aggressive pricing against the competition.
GVT TV plans to win market share by offering high-definition channels in all packages, including the most basic, and not counting the stations open relay. Besides the qualitysound and picture, the company promises PVR technologies (schedule recording diskdrive), time-shifting (pause live programming) and VOD (abbreviation for "video on demand"), among other news announced at a press conference in Sao Paulo, separatethe event of IT and Telecom.
Also new is the concept of applications using the set-top box, which already exists in the case of Smart TVs and decoders as the Brazilian Visiontec. At first you can have access to Twitter and the weather (which works intelligently, filtering by specified cities). Later, GVT plans to include Facebook, YouTube, real-time news, sports scores, and evenhoroscopes.
The operator promises some differences in relation to competition. One is the actual number of deals on video, with 140 channels, "over 30" in HD. "We do not have that thing where you have 300 channels, but with 200 in audio," says Alcides Troller Pinto, vice president of Marketing and Sales Company.
A different service is also the Another Chance, which lets you watch a program even afterhe went to the air - not to be written. According to Troller, the content will be available for a certain time for consumers to access any number of times, and this period will vary for each channel. There is also the offer of Power Music Club music portal GVT has released a fewmonths.
Yet the most striking feature is the digital recorder, offering the PVR and Time-Shifting to subscribers and bringing 500 GB capacity. According to the company, this equates to 500 hours of standard definition programming and 150 hours in high definition.
Another new feature is the Multiroom, which allows you to access recorded contentanywhere in the house further, even if they themselves do not have tape recorders. It functions as a sort of media center by cables, and runs independently from that displays on the main point. It did not say if this option will extend to mobile devices as well.
