Top 10 Security Rules 1. A healthy mistrust Do not just open attachments without thinking first. Do not trust people you don’t know. Never react to tempting unsolicited emails. Do not just click on any colorful ‘free’ web offer. Keep your personal data yourself. 2. Protect your admin account This is the most important account and must be protected using a regularly changed, secure, password. 3. Restrict privileges Never use the administrator account for routine work. It is better to create a user account with restricted privileges. 4. Don’t forget updates It doesn’t matter whether it’s done by hand or automatically –a fully patched system is more secure. That goes for other Microsoft products, such as Office, too. 5. Check for weak points MBSA 2.0 free from Microsoft, check your system and inform you of any potential security loopholes that need to be closed. 6. Use software barriers No system should be put in to service without the security trio of desktop firewall, a virus scanner and a root kit/spyware detector.
7. Keep your detection files up to date
Virus scanners and spyware detectors only offer protection if their signature files are kept up to date. 8. Stay informed
If you have the necessary knowhow you can react more quickly to security problems. Free security bulletins from, among other, Microsoft, Symantec, and Windows IT Pro can provide you with this important information 9. Use the right browser
Internet Explorer is not particularly user friendly, doesn’t have many advanced functions and is extremely insecure. Opera and Firefox are better and more secure browsers. 10. Acquire security knowhow
The more you know about computers and security, the easier you will find it to recognize situations that could lead to a security problem developing. Note: I am sure that all the readers will follow these Roles.
