Most may remember about the Pentium
that came into existence in 1993
. It is today by far known as one of the greatest invention of the 20th Century
and bringing us way beyond into the future ! This is especially true when the internet
The earliest simplest microchips ( because it was so small ) were used as transistors for devices like digital watches & clocks. The humble beginning for Intel as many may not know, was all about calculator. The maths logic set foot for the uproar of the microprocessor
which then began it's way into the computer era which we nowadays call it Personal Computer
or simply PC.
processor which was launched as early as 1972
, was the successor to the 4004
, and twice the power. Even then the term PC was still nowhere in near existence. It's just plain computer. Infact it was used in devices called TV Typewriters an essential dummy terminals ( the term terminals is being used in today's workstations though ). When the 8080
processor came into reality in 1974, it was used in Altair
( named after a destination from the Starship Enterprise from the old Star Trek
Tv series ) which was retailed for US$395
and was sold within months.
The major watershed was by IBM
( International Business Machines
) who made the 8080 chips a success that Intel was ranked in the Fortune 500
and named "Business Triumphs of the Seventies." This was the kick start of the Internet reign.
The ever familiar x86
architecture then came about and has maintained it's basic mainframe of what the Pentium is today.1982
saw the dawning of the 286
machines, Intel's first & foremost processor that could run all softwares written for it's predecessors. There was about 15 million 286-based PC installed around the world over.
saw the 275,000
transistors microprocessor which was called 386
and 100 times faster than the original 4004. It was 32
bit and could do multi-tasking
. Most eventful would be 1999
where the 486
was introduced. With it's advanced command-level computer
desktop publishing, speed was the main criteria. This boosted the PC world almost instantly.
Then came the real era of computing - the PENTIUM
, which was launched in 1993
. This is the real world of computing which eventually created the branding of "Intel Inside"
asymbol of choice! In order to cope with higher speeds, color and sound, the Pro
processors was introduced in 1995
, 25th anniversary
of Intel, with the 7.5 million-transistor Pentium II
processor, came the proprietory MMX
technology. Delivering it's specially designed processing of video, audio and graphics enhancement capability. This boosted the Internet surfing with full efficiency of color, sound and of course speed. That's how the Internet
is today with all that mouseclicks.
So, in the 1990's
, Internet soars as a great demand in the computing industry. Websites was outsourced dramatically, though it was quite costly to own one at that time. In the spring of 1999
really saw the coming of the Internet technology with full 3D
capabilities - the Pentium III
