Will Technology take over the world? That is not even a question anymore, technology has taken over the world. We always knew that technology would change the way we live as individuals but did anyone ever think that we would become so dependent on technology, that we could not do anything without a computer?
Technology has become the only way that we know how to live, if technology died tomorrow, we would not be able to function. We have let the computer do everything for us, to the point that we do not think like we should, so. Why can we not think like we should and why can we not solve basic problems anymore? It is because we gave the computer a brain, so it would do the thinking for us.
If we go back to what would happen if technology died tomorrow, the first thing that would happen is nobody would go to work, why? Because we have given the computer control of our businesses, we have no control over our own businesses. Bank accounts would not exist and nobody would be able to get any money because we gave the computer control over our financial affairs, therefore, the only records of an account existing with a particular bank our in the computer files. We would literally be living life like the movie " the day the earth stood still".
As a society, what have we become? We do not have to leave our apartments, or our homes to get anything done, we can do everything by computer, and all we have to do is go from the bedroom to the desk. I do not own a regular TV, why? Because I have a flat computer screen that has the TV built right into and the DVD, and if I want a DVD. All I have to do is order it from their online site, and they will deliver it.
Other countries wonder why we do not get out anymore, well. When you can do everything from order groceries, to pay bills, to playing online games, and everything else that a computer can do. You really do not need to leave your house, as a society it is our fault that businesses are either closing, or their prices are getting outrageous. We are more likely to order something from a computer, than just going out to the store, and spending a day outside and getting physical exercise. The stores now have to compete with online shopping, and in order for a business to remain in business, they have to raise their prices because they are competing with a computer.
This is actually what got me thinking about technology today. The new hard drive is going to have a trillion bytes, The 1T option initially costs $500. A terabyte would occupy 100 million reams of paper, consuming some 50,000 trees. It is enough to hold 16 days (not hours) of DVD-quality video, or a million pictures, or almost two years worth of continuous music. I know people that literally have no furniture in their apartments, and sleep on a blow up bed and have the state of the art computer system, so they can do everything by computer. I know people that would rather spend $500 on the new hard drive, instead of going to a discount furniture store, and spending $500 on a complete bedroom suite.
So, is there anyone that still does believe that technology has taken over the world?
